Tumblr pauses Fediverse Integration, WordPress Switch

Tumblr is throwing away (or at least pausing) plans to migrate to WordPress. Relatedly, this also means suspending plans to integrate Tumblr into Fediverse.
This news is on Monday Decoder From the Edge Podcast. Automattic, which owns Tumblr, announced last year that it plans to move Tumblr’s backend to WordPress. But Automatic founder and CEO Matt Mullenweg told Decoder The idea was put on hold because the company decided to “focus on what users and what users ask for are paying attention to.” Track: Changing the backend of a website is a big task, but for most users, it is obviously not obvious.
A seemingly temporary transfer from WordPress may have a downstream effect. For example, Tumblr now joins Fediverse, which is an interconnected network of publishing platforms for a decentralized social media landscape. In other words, your attention, follow and posts are migrated across all platforms.

What is Fediverse? How will it affect creators?
Tumblr migration to WordPress will make it easy to integrate Fediverse. This is because WordPress has an ActivityPub plugin that allows users to connect to other platforms on Fediverse. No more now.
Mullenvig told Decoder. “So, this is one of the arguments to migrate everything to WordPress.”
