People are using AI chatbots to guide their psychedelic trips

Christian Angermayer, founder of the Life Sciences of Psychedelic Biotechnology, talks about AI, helping human psychedelic therapists pass motivational examinations by performing motivational examinations with patients. “AI can play a huge role in volunteering to join therapy to support lifestyle changes,” he said. “For the psychological support we provide on the go, I believe you always need at least one trained health care professional who can provide direct support when needed.”
Although Trey didn’t trip under anyone’s supervision, he still felt that he was getting profits from using Alterd. Although it was too early to draw a clear conclusion in just a few months, Trey believed his interaction with AI Bot was to help him avoid drinking. He believes that the app’s mind chat feature is his own “subconscious” and it is built on all his diary entries and notes.
“This app and everything else gives me a deep sense of self,” he said. “I have been able to observe my thoughts, feelings and impulses without judgment or spirals.”
“Our ‘chat’ feature with your mind is not only a universal Chatgpt interface,” says App Creator Sam Suchin. “This is a custom AI tool we build that reflects your own thoughts, emotions and patterns.” He adds that it uses data about the user’s current status, past entries, interactions and emotional tone to generate personalized insights. “Although AI is designed to actively support users, it is not particularly blindly reinforcing all thoughts or behaviors. Instead, it gently challenges or highlights potential negative patterns, such as overuse of substances and encourages healthier alternatives.”
However, there is a clear concern that relying on machines that cannot perceive subtlety, especially when it can be the pinnacle of a psychedelic journey that can be bruised, can pose serious dangers. Even without using psychedelic drugs, there have been stories of Chatgpt-induced psychosis on online forums like Reddit.
“The key issue about CHATGPT and most other AI agents is their lack of dynamic emotional regulation and ability to jointly regulate the user’s nervous system,” said Manesh Girn, a postdoctoral neuroscientist at the University of California, San Francisco. “These are at the heart of treatment rapport, and research shows that it is crucial for positive outcomes in psychedelic therapy.”
He added: “The psychedelic experience can be extremely challenging and painful, and relying solely on an invisible, potential tone deaf agent, rather than a human being in human existence, has high potential for harm. “Especially someone who is often reflected in the assumptions in user prompts that “can lead someone on a path that is harmful or confusing.”
Chatgpt is not a replacement for professional care, but a universal tool that is designed to be factual, neutral and safe, said Gaby Raila, spokesman for Open AI who owns a chatbot. Teach its models to remind users of the importance of relationships and professional guidance in the real world, and its use policy requires users to comply with the law without causing harm to themselves or others.
