The Smithsonian agency has once again come under scrutiny by the Trump administration, this time focusing on the National Museum of History.

The exhibition includes an exhibition on Mickey’s mouse, the character in 1928 cartoon Steamboat Willie. The text on the museum’s wall says: “The facial features of the new character, the white gloves and the scammer’s temperament are the remains of the long tradition of Blackface Minstrelsy.”
Another exhibition at the museum describes the influence of the late pop star Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, who “let us talk about identity” and “illuminates the long-term cultural and growing political influence of Mexican Americans and the United States.”
There is also a 1923 circus poster, with the placard explaining: “At the big top, the circus expressed the colonial impulse to claim to occupy the rule worldwide.”

In March, a newly issued executive order directed the Smithsonian board to eliminate “improper, separatist or anti-American ideology” in the museum. In May, Kim Sajet, director of the National Portrait Gallery, resigned after Trump said he supported Dei’s sack.
