The Boom 4 (8/10, recommended by Wired) follows an impressive legacy in the world of Bluetooth speakers. The fourth-generation pop cable adds some sound tweaks and much-needed USB-C charging while keeping the same rugged rack exterior, which is pretty much proof of everything, including an IP67 weatherproof rating, which basically keeps it safe from dust input measures and is ready for a quick dunk in the pool or a wash in the sink.
The speakers have a smooth and clear sound, with finer details that are more refined than most of the speakers we tested while still providing a solid hole punch in a large number of cases. Its 360 degree scale means you will get the same great sound from any angle. The bass isn’t as good as the bigger siblings, the Megaboom 4 (also sold on Golden Day), but it can be taken almost anywhere.
Those oversized Plus/negative buttons on the front make it easy for anyone to party, while in-app features such as EQ, alarms, and even the speakers won’t be found in most nameless cylinder speakers.
The Boom 4 tote bag has a battery life of 15 hours, and my personal favorite is the range over 100 feet (verified by my two feet and excellent counting skills), so you don’t have to worry about killing the atmosphere when you check out your kids or grills.
I’m a big fan of this speaker at full price, but for $100 or under it, it’s a effortless buy and a great addition to any portable audio arsenal.
