Americans add 3 new routes to Greater Latin American expansion

American Airlines will provide some warm weather for tired winter travelers later this year.

The Fort Worth-based airline announced this week that it will add three new routes to Latin America in the winter.

The new flights include services between Chicago and Mexico destinations: Mexico City and Queretaro. Americans will also increase services between Philadelphia and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

When to go: These are the best times to buy international flights

The new daily service at the U.S. Chicago hub at O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Mexico City International Airport (MEX) will debut on October 26, while airlines will be peaking from December 18, 2025 to January 5, 2026 to January 5, 2026 to 2026 during the peak vacation quarter from Chicago to Queretaro International Airport (QRO).

Meanwhile, new daily services from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) in San Domingo will begin on December 18.

In addition to three new routes, the airline has expanded holiday services in Latin America between December 18, 2025 and January 5, 2026. The expansion touches on three routes from PHL, eight routes from Miami International Airport (MIA), a major U.S. gateway hub to the southern border.

Overall, the United States plans to have more than 2.3 million round-trip seats throughout Latin America during the December holiday, a million seats above its closest competitor.

Not only will these new flights attract those who wish to escape during their winter break, but they will also likely be subject to a VFR (or “visited friends and relatives”) flyer hoping to go home for a vacation.

Interestingly, the two largest competitors in the United States have also announced new flights to the region in winter, so American expansion in Latin America is emerging.

This week, Delta announced its first ever flight from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) to Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) in Lima, Peru, departed on December 4, while United Airlines announced a considerable expansion throughout the region.

The Wing is adding a new destination at George Bush InterContinental Airport (IAH) in Houston – TEPIC International Airport (TPQ) in Nayarit, Mexico on the Pacific Coast and two new routes from Denver International Airport (DEN) to MEX and DOMINACAICAN REMICICAN RELICEICAN RELYICAIN RELUSICAN.

But despite all the competition, Americans remain the undisputed leader in serving Latin America. “As a major American airline in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, we focus on growing our network to bring our customers to favorite destinations in the region – from tropical paradise in Puerto Rico to dynamic and international Mexico City, we will be operating in the city of Mexico in the next year during the winter months. The customer said in a statement.

Tickets for the new flight will be available for sale on July 14 from all channels in the United States.
