Acai Bowl Recipe Recipe
I’m all a smoothie or smoothie bowl for nutritious breakfast or snacks. From a green smoothie bowl to a raspberry Chia smoothie, this girl loves her mixed fruits!
Now, this recipe is very similar to making a regular smoothie bowl, except we use frozen Acai bags instead of just frozen fruit.
Acai adds a lot of nutrients and earthy flavor, which is perfect for pairing with other fruits to sweeten it, such as frozen berries and bananas. Add almond milk, some almond butter and your favorite toppings and you can get a wholesome breakfast or snack!
The best part is that these bowls are unlimitedly customizable! You can swap out frozen fruit, use other liquids, and add any toppings your heart wants. Perfect for these mornings when you want to be healthy but don’t have a lot of time!
What is needed to make Acai bowls from scratch
Making Acai bowls from scratch is so fast and easy! Here is a short list of what you need:
- Frozen berries: Any type of berries is suitable for this recipe (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, etc.). Just use something you have or like!
- banana: Use frozen bananas to produce the creamiest texture! The effect of room temperature bananas will not be the same as the frozen ones, making the mixture colder. Ideally, you need to use over-frozen bananas as it adds a lot of natural sweetness!
- Acai package: The obvious AH-SIGH-EE can be found in the refrigerator section of most grocery stores near frozen fruit. Sambazon brands are the most common, but as long as you get unsweetened packaging, any brand can use it because the sweet packaging is a bit sweet!
- Almond milk: Enough to mix everything together while maintaining the thickness.
- Almond Butter (optional): I like to add a tablespoon or two tablespoons of almond butter to my Acai bowl for some healthy fat and richness, but you can leave it out if you want.
- High power mixer: You need a blender that is powerful enough to break everything down into a creamy texture without having to add too much milk or you end up with more smoothies.
Can I use other types of frozen fruit instead of berries?
Absolutely! If your thing is not a berries, you can use other types of fruits like frozen mango, strawberries, pineapple, peach, papaya or any other type of fruit you like!
Can I add protein powder to these bowls?
Yes! Feel free to add your favorite protein powder to the bowl to enhance the protein! You may need to add a little extra liquid to smooth out everything, as the protein powder thickens the bowl.
What if I don’t have almond milk?
Any type of liquid can make the Acai bowl smoother! You can use apple juice, orange juice, and even coconut water.
Can I make these bowls sweet?
Yes! If you prefer a sweet bowl, add some honey or maple syrup to the blender for some extra sweetness.
Can I make these bowls more creamy?
Absolutely! You can add some regular Greek yogurt or coconut yogurt to keep it vegan.
