How to stay healthy and positive in personal challenges

Share some of my thoughts on taking care of myself in times of hardship.
Hi, friends! Hopefully you have a pleasant morning so far.
Today, even if you’ve been through tough times, I want to talk about some tough times and work hard for myself. I’m writing this for Spain and using Spain as the carrot to look forward to as we’ve been going through it here. It was a tough year with the kids, school situation and marriage and a lot of things, so I used it for my own reminder as well.
It is also worth mentioning here that I never like to be a complainant, especially since I know that we all have different levels.
Life doesn’t always go as planned. We all face sadness, disappointment, illness, loss or overwhelming moments. Personal challenges are a normal part of the human experience, but that doesn’t mean they’re easy. In fact, it is during these difficult times that it becomes too tempting to fall into a negative cycle, to get out of habits that support us or to indulge in unhealthy coping.
Whether it’s numbness on the screen, skipping exercise or having an emotional meal to spend the day, we’ve all been there. I’ve been there. What I learned from personal experience and working with clients is that while we can’t always control our situation, we can control how we respond.
Implementing healthy habits and being a positive mindset is not about pretending that everything is OK. It’s about supporting our bodies and minds so that we can face tough times with resilience and grace. Today, I want to share some of my strategies so that you can feel competent even in a storm.
Why is motivation important during personal challenges
Positiveness is not about toxic optimism or ignoring your feelings. It’s about choosing hope over helplessness and actively using tools that support your mental health and well-being.
When you embrace positive psychology during challenging times, you can:
Reduce stress levels by moving the nervous system out of combat or flight.
Helps you stay motivated to make choices that support long-term health.
Boosting your immune system, improving sleep and promoting recovery.
Provide clarity so you can make better decisions and see new solutions.
How to stay healthy and positive in personal challenges
1. Priority for 30 minutes of exercise every day
Even if life feels heavy, moving your body can be one of the most powerful ways to manage stress and reset your mindset.
The movement doesn’t have to be intense or long – only 30 minutes of walking, gentle stretching, dancing in the kitchen, and even yoga can enhance endorphins, balance your mood and bring you into the moment.
I like to think of exercise as a moving meditation. It brings me back to my body and helps me deal with my emotions in a healthy way. If it’s hard to start, just set a timer for 5 minutes. Often, that’s all it takes to build momentum.
2. Nourish your body with real food
It’s easy to get to convenience food or skip meals altogether when we’re overwhelmed. However, using truly nutritious foods to nourish the body helps stabilize your blood sugar, supporting mental health and emotional regulation.
Focus on whole foods: lean protein, healthy fats, lots of fiber vegetables and water. The reward points for eating protein and vegetables before carbohydrates can support blood sugar balance.
It has nothing to do with perfection; it is to give your body more strength and energy to drive the fuel needed for difficult times.
3. Practice gratitude every day
Even in the darkest seasons, there is always something to be grateful for. Practicing gratitude has been shown to increase happiness, reduce depression, and transform our mindset from manifestations of lack to lack.
Try it: Write down three things every night before going to bed, and you want to thank you. It can be small (your coffee cup, friendliness) or large (your health, your kids, a safe place to sleep). Thank you for your brain for finding benefits, which is especially useful in tough times.
4. Establish a support system
You are not going to live alone. One of the best ways to stay healthy with personal challenges is to build a network of support you can count on.
It may seem like:
Talk to the therapist or coach
Contact with trustworthy friends
Join an online or in-person community
Connection is a drug. Don’t wait until you feel better. Sometimes reaching out is the way you start to feel better.

5. Use mindfulness tools to relieve stress
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you get stuck in a cycle of “assumptions” and worst-case scenarios. That’s why you’re so powerful back to the moment.
Mindfulness does not have to mean being still for an hour.
may be:
Take a deep breath 10
Use grounding essential oil
journal
Perform 5 minutes of meditation
Spend time in nature
These tools help you reduce the tightening system and increase self-awareness by calming down. Even a few minutes can make a big impact on how you feel.
6. Set realistic goals (and celebrate small victory)
It is important to set viable rather than overwhelming goals during challenging times. If your usual to-do list is impossible, allow yourself to back off.
Maybe:
Drink 8 glasses of water today
10 minutes walk
Make a meal
Every small victory creates motivation. Celebrating yourself in appearance, even if it is small – is a beautiful form of self-esteem.
7. Focus on sleep and rest
Sleep is the basis of healing, hormone balance and mood regulation. When we feel stressed or go through difficult times, sleep is easily disturbed, either because our minds are racing or staying up late to escape.
Create a windproof program that supports REST:
The lights are dimmed
Turn off the screen 1 hour before going to bed
Using weighted blankets
Try a blue light blocker before going to bed
Read something exciting
Getting 7-9 hours of quality sleep helps your body heal and allows you to face everything with strength.
8. Make yourself feel
This is huge. Staying positive does not mean avoiding your feelings, it means letting them through you so you don’t get stuck.
Make yourself cry. angry. Feel sad. Emotion is not the enemy. Suppressing them can cause more physical and emotional pain over the long term.
Try it: Don’t mark emotions as good or bad, but ask yourself, what does this emotion try to tell me? Sometimes sitting feels like the first step in recovery.
No matter which season you enter, you know this: You are strong, you are not alone, you can support yourself in any way you need to.
Keeping healthy and positive personal challenges is not about being perfect. It’s about using compassion, using stress-relieving tools, and keeping in touch with your values.
It helps to remember that everything is temporary and simple healthy habits can support us for a long time.
My friend, give you a hug.
xoxo
