Russna Kaur – Boooooom! – Create *inspiring *community *art*design *music *movie *photo*project

From the work of Vancouver artist Russna Kaur (previously appeared here). Kaur completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Waterloo and Emily Carr University of the Arts. Her upcoming exhibition at the Burlington Gallery shows new works rooted in her personal history while drawing new areas.
“Go twice and haven’t been there yet (the space behind the thin screen and the prying eyes)” creates an environment of destruction, redecoration and resetting. Kaur conducts playful materials interrogations of planks, mesh, canvas and metal, layered and clamped together – in a sense, browsed the work’s “scaffolding.” Her paintings are also filled with personal references and memories: the pattern of sari and Rangolis in her mother’s Indian boutique. The colors here are not only about beauty; it’s about deception – combining the pain and disorientation of complex cultural negotiations.
“Twice there, not yet reached there (the space behind the thin screen, pry open the eyes)” will be on display at the Lee-Chin Family Gallery which begins on September 20 and will run until January 4, 2026.
