Artist Genevieve Cohn’s “Defending Tenderness”

A project that depicts the community of women in Boston-based artist Genevieve Cohn (formerly here). Cohen draws on historical and imaginative past, present and future, leverages images and ideologies of the women’s army of World War I and World War II, as well as female separatist communities, fairy tales and literary novels.
“My paintings acknowledge and reflect a world where female power comes from collaboration, self-selected agents, and connections to the natural world. I see the thoughts of collection, decoration, beauty and selection as the thoughts of characters in my world of work that establish ritual and practical ideas. These paintings specifically explore the exploration of well-known meanings, and the meanings we choose to tend to explore.
