Moms in functional labs over 30 should run

Share some of my best functional labs for moms over 30.

Hi, friends! Are you OK? What are you going to do this morning? This afternoon, I have a few phone calls, exercises and podcast interviews today.

Today, let’s talk about one of my favorite topics: Functional Labs. (Friendly reminder, this post is not medical advice. I am not a doctor, these are just some of my favorite labs to run with clients. Please contact your doctor before making any health changes.)

What is a functional laboratory?

Functional labs exceed the standard blood work you usually get in your doctor’s office. While traditional labs look for disease status or within-range markers, functional tests are designed to evaluate your body’s function forward Something went wrong. These labs can find potential imbalances in hormones, minerals, gut health, detox pathways, and more. Usually before the symptoms become more severe.

Unlike standard tests, functional laboratories often use non-traditional samples such as saliva, urine, feces, or hair (rather than or in addition to blood). This gives a more detailed look at cellular and metabolic levels. For example, hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) can show mineral imbalances and heavy metal toxicity, while salivary cortisol tests can map out your stress response throughout the day – usually not seen on regular blood panels.

These tests are very valuable for creating targeted protocols that support root causes, not just management of symptoms. They can also be done at home, which makes them super accessible.

Functional laboratory for mothers over 30 years old

If you are a woman over 30 and feel that your body is not responding to the way you used to – your energy is gone, your sleep is inconsistent, your exercise doesn’t work, your mood is like a roller coaster – not on your head. Maybe it’s time to look at the hood!

Functional lab testing is one of the most capable things you can do for your health. Rather than guessing which supplements or diet to try, Testing provides you with data. It gives you clarity. It tells us where your body is out of balance and more importantly, what we can do.

(It is worth mentioning here that these tests do not look for diseases, nor are they used to diagnose diseases. Instead, they look at defects and toxicity, so you can work hard to get your body back to balance.)

These are the core functional tests I recommend for many mom friends clients over 30 years old. These may be especially useful if you are in your 30s, 40s or older and want to increase the following symptoms:

Hormonal imbalance

Fatigue and burnout

Weight gain (although doing all the right things”)

Mood fluctuations or anxiety

Trouble sleep

Intestinal problems and abdominal distension

Hair loss or skin changes

My Favorite Equilife Feature Lab Test

1. Stress, emotional and metabolic tests

This is a gamechanger. Stress, mood and metabolism tests allow us to snapshot your sex hormones (such as estrogen and progesterone), your stress hormones (cortisol), thyroid (TSH, TSH, T4, T3, reverse T3, T3, antibodies), and key insulin and blood sugar markers.

Why it matters: These systems are closely connected. If you experience stubborn weight, fatigue, irregular cycles, or mood swings, this test can show you the whole story. Many women were surprised to find that their symptoms were associated with slow thyroid function or cortisol dysfunction, and once we knew what was going on, we could develop a target action plan.

2. Organic acid test (oat)

Think of it as an internal report card about how the body actually works. Oats view over 70 markers associated with gut health, detox, neurotransmitters, nutritional levels, mitochondrial function, and overgrowth of yeast or mold.

Why it matters: If you have mysterious symptoms that don’t seem to be connected – or you’re always exhausted, foggy, or inflammation, then this test is very helpful. It often spots hidden imbalances that other standard labs miss and provides us with targeted supplements or protocols to support the direction of the body. This may be particularly insightful about autoimmune, digestive, skin and emotional problems. Check it out here.

3. HTMA (Hair Mineral Analysis)

This is one of the fewest, but very valuable tests in functional medicine. HTMA focuses on your mineral balance (such as magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, and zinc) and toxic heavy metal exposure (such as mercury, lead and aluminum).

Why it matters: Minerals are your body’s spark plugs. When they lose balance (usually due to stress, use of birth control, indigestion, or chronic infection) can affect energy, metabolism, thyroid, and detoxification pathways. We also have a deep dive into adrenal function and your nervous system. This is a low-cost non-invasive test that provides a lot of insights and is usually what I started with.

4. IgG food sensitivity test

While not always necessary for everyone, food sensitivity testing may help if you struggle with unexplained bloating, skin problems, joint pain or fatigue; especially when these symptoms persist, even if you eat cleanly.

Why it matters: Food sensitivity can cause low-grade inflammation in the gut, which can spill into hormone health, immune response, and energy. This test can provide us with a temporary roadmap of what to remove or reduce so that the gut can heal.

This is the whole

These tests have nothing to do with perfection or “biohacking”. They are getting answers. From these answers, create a plan that feels sustainable and personal to you.

With the correct data you can:

Sleep better (deeper)

Finally, it has stable energy again

Be rooted in spiritual clarity and emotionally

Balancing hormones and improving cycle health

Know exactly what your body needs now

Stop wasting money on unwanted supplements
