In a hobby dominated by an extremely despicable credit card with over $550 and a luxury list, it’s hard to imagine that a common brand of airline credit card with $99 annual fees could be valuable to loyal Southwest customers.

This card, along with four other common Southwest greeting cards, has been recently refreshed. Southwest Plus card refresh includes expanded travel day benefits and updated bonus category revenue. Apart from these changes, about 44% of the annual fee increases to $99.

It is also important to note that Southwest Airlines is in a radical change, including the boarding process, bagging fees and seating tasks.

We generally recommend that applicants have a credit score of 670 or above to increase their chances of approval.

Southwest Express Rewards Plus Credit Card Welcome Discount

New Southwest Cardholders can earn 100,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 in the first five months of opening.

According to TPG’s July 2025 valuation, the 100,000 points included in this welcome offer are worth $1,400. This is the highest welcome quote we’ve seen on this card without a partner pass.

If you have someone who travels with you regularly, you may need to wait for a quote that includes a partner pass as it can add more value to you.

Remember that you may have a chance to win a welcome bonus and a companion pass (depending on your spending) as you will receive 114,000* points, close to the 135,000 points you need to get a companion pass.

*This total is based on the 100,000 points you earn from the welcome bonus, plus the additional 4,000 points you earn from the expenditure requirement and the 10,000 peer pass eligibility points you will also receive.

Before you rush to apply for this card, there are two application rules to remember. First, the cards in the southwest comply with Chase’s 5/24 rules. If you have opened five or more new credit card accounts (not just Chase) in the past 24 months, you may not approve the card.

Another limitation applies specifically to Southwest credit cards. If you have any personal Southwest credit card (or have received a welcome bonus on the Southwest personal card in the last 24 months), you will not be eligible for the bonus on this card.

Southwest Quick Rewards Plus Credit Card Benefits

You will enjoy the following ongoing benefits in exchange for the $99 annual fee for this card:

  • Free check bag: Received the first inspection bag from the cardholder and travel on up to the same booking.
  • Standard seating options: Cardholders offer you a free standard seating option within 48 hours of departure, up to eight passengers who can travel on the same booking. Given the cost of choosing a seat now, this revitalization can be very valuable, depending on how often you fly southwest.
  • Early bird occupancy for two years: Receive two free early bird check-in (for flights running in 2025; ending December 31). Given that these check-in costs up to $99 per person, only one person may cover the card’s annual fee in 2025.
  • Priority boarding: Cardholders themselves receive 5 sets of priority (2026 and beyond) and can travel on the same booking at most. If you have A-List status, you can board with an earlier group.
  • Anniversary bonus: According to TPG’s July 2025 valuation, cardholders receive 3,000 bonus points worth $42 per account anniversary year.
  • Increase the eligibility points of 10,000 companions per year: Cardholders receive 10,000 points per year.
  • 25% on-board savings: Cardholders receive a 25% refund (as a statement credit) after using the card to purchase on-board beverages and Wi-Fi.
  • Flight discount code: Cardholders receive a 10% flight discount code for each anniversary year (excluding base fare).

  • New: 2 points per dollar spent at gas stations and grocery stores annually, the first $5,000 combined purchases per year (according to TPG’s July 2025 valuation of 2.8%)
  • 2 points per dollar spent on Southwest purchases (return 2.8%)
  • Spend 2 points on Quick Reward Hotels and Car Rental Partners (2.8% return; termination; December 31)
  • Spend 2 points per dollar on local transportation and commuting, including ride service (2.8% return; termination; December 31)
  • 2 points per dollar spent on internet, cable and telephone services; 2 points per dollar spent on select streaming services (2.8% return; termination on December 31)
  • 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases (rewards 1.4%)

It is important to note that current cardholders will receive current and new revenue rates by December 31.

The card now has no foreign transaction fees, so it is a good choice to buy abroad.

These are good revenue rates for a common brand of airline cards, but the Southwest purchases are lower than those for other individual Southwest cards. If your primary motivation for getting this card is to earn bonus points on your Southwest purchase, you might want to choose one of them.

Southwest Quick Rewards Plus Redemption Points on Credit Cards

Redeem you Southwest Garca For Southwest flights, get the best value from it.

Rapid Rewards also offers other redemption options, including gift cards, merchandise, hotel accommodation, car rental and travel experiences. However, the redemption value on these options is much lower than what you get when using points for Southwest flights.

However, if you fly with Southwest regularly, one of the other two Southwest cards will offer additional privileges. In addition to simply looking at the annual fee, be sure to evaluate the best fit for you.
