Photographer Sophie Forster’s “The Mute of the Tree”

A photo article about dementia and the feeling of losing memories by designer and photographer Sophie Forster. Born in a rural village in Austria, Forster informs the tactile and narrative quality of her images. When it comes to her photography, Foster is not interested in capturing perfection, but rather ignores and everyday moments, surprisingly beautiful. These collections of images provide a visual exploration of topics that we are often reluctant to disregard: dementia. Through the narrative series, Forster challenges us what it means to lose memories while we still have them:
“This project is an invitation to pause. Reflecting on what we take for granted – our memories. Through intimate conversations, countless documentaries and interviews with the affected people, I built a visual story that captures both the heartbreaking and quiet beauty of this experience.
