Surreal narrative unfolds between animals in a fantastic painting by Laura Catherwood – Huge
The weird fox, sleepy deer and bold rat are just some woodland creatures that Laura Catherwood dreamlike paintings and paintings. She said she worked primarily on graphite and oil, placing recognizable animals in unexpected and dreamy situations, and the illustrations “exploring the inner emotional landscape while soothing the audience.”
It usually takes a moment to understand the scope of each scene in the Katherwood scene. For example, a pair of spotted frogs in “rue” is not what it seems to be at the beginning, as both heads come out of one body and their long tongues are pierced by fishing hooks. Among the “unsuccessful” toads is an unusual bowl, filled with water that provides a tiny oasis for a flock of flying fish.
Catherwood is interested in the power of illustrations, in the feelings, questions, and experiences that may be challenging or revolve around sadness. Her scenes are surreal and even a little mysterious, but we are invited to witness intimacy, influence and mysterious narratives that drive people to be curious and amazed.

Catherwood is currently working on a series of nine small murals, part of a public outreach program involving invasive species, as well as a small piece of work related to species in upstate New York, which she will soon move.
