Is it a good idea to tell your current employer that you will be working on the next step?

Job search and 10,000 rules.

Is it a good idea to tell your current employer that you will be working on the next step? Bad idea. Bad idea.

Now, I think it’s a bad idea. The first is the manager’s natural reaction, or the HR staff’s natural reaction is: “Are you going to work for them?” and try to dissuade you from leaving. Because why do they really care where you are going to work? Why is it important to them, just use it as a sales tool or for data purposes? It’s not to say they’re going to turn around and say, “Are you going to work for them? You must be better than we think. Wow. Maybe we should talk about you staying. Wow.” It doesn’t work.

Well, so what they can really do is wish you all the best, or try, um, persuading you seem to be working for the clumsiest company on the planet and you have to be an idiot because you have to be an idiot. So I just simply said, Don’t tell them. There is no benefit at all. Seriously, there is no benefit to tell the company where you are going.

An important key to success
