What speed do you want to set for work search?

Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter

In 1990, I ran the New York Marathon on a sunny November day and the temperature was 78 degrees. This is my first marathon and I suspect this may be my last one. My late friend Frank Boros, who I trained with for over a year and I lined up There are more than 20,000 runners on Staten Island’s back One side of the Verrazano Bridge.

Our goal is to accomplish and,,,,, On such a warm day, we were confident that we could accomplish it, but weren’t sure if we could achieve our goal of less than six hours.

When the cannon that started the race was fired, we really couldn’t move at all because a lot of people were in front of us. In fact, we couldn’t move for ten minutes, and then we were almost walking.

Eventually, we started jogging and set ourselves up a pace so that we could both do it. I was exhausted and missed the wedding I attended that night.

Along the way, we saw many people who started rushing wildly once they could jog, we could see that we hadn’t trained to run 26 miles in the 385 yards of this marathon, let alone running on such a warm day. They sprint when they should walk, and they unnecessarily waste a lot of energy.

Job search is rarely a sprint. Especially for intermediate and senior professionals, it’s more of a marathon. People often hear the cannons go out, the race begins, they fall frantically, waste their energy like I do in my marathon, and then struggle hard.

They are not ready, they are not fully trained, so if they spend some time preparing for longer games.

Having a “positive attitude” is not enough…although a positive attitude is good. After you haven’t returned to five or six times of the second interview, facing contradictory messages (many rejections) are positive. You need help!

Be honest with yourself. Do you need help?
