Claire’s Life: Celebrating Sergio Hudson’s partnership with Volvo in Charleston, South Carolina

Happy Thursday, Bombers and Bombshells!
Earlier this week, I traveled to Charleston, South Carolina, to celebrate Sergio Hudson’s partnership with Volvo Cars America—a powerful partnership that commemorates Volvo’s 70th anniversary in the United States and unites two brands with strong ties to South Carolina.
Sergio Hudson has deep South Carolina roots — his mother is from Charleston and has deeper ties to the area than he first realized. Charleston is also home to one of Volvo’s main factories, where the new EX90 is built – the car that inspired his latest collaboration.

Reflecting on this collaboration, Hudson said: “This is where cars are made. I have a triple connection. Our first family car was a Volvo, and my mom worked for Mack Trucking, which was later purchased by Volvo. They built the car in my mom’s birthplace of Charleston, which inspired the series. I had no idea there was a Volvo factory here and when they decided to host the event in this city it felt full circle. I used to come here every summer – it really felt like home. “

Hudson said they “We were contacted to design a mini range inspired by the EX90, using the car’s materials and color palette. “ Volvo’s Silla, meanwhile, praised the synergies: “I love his designs, classic and timeless but with a twist – the way he combines colors in unexpected ways is elegant and sophisticated. This is exactly the spirit we wanted for the EX90. It’s a perfect fit. “

She explained: “We come from a company with roots in the North – a truly Scandinavian brand. Functionality is always at the heart of our work, shaped by a harsh climate and an unwavering commitment to safety. Volvo has long been seen as somewhere between mainstream and luxury, but our aim is to move confidently into premium territory. We focus on craftsmanship, attention to detail, and create designs that are distinctly Scandinavian – calm, understated, sophisticated, but never boring. “
The trip started with a fitting where I previewed the capsule collection first hand.

Inspired by the all-electric Volvo EX90, Sergio Hudson has created a limited-edition collection that includes a gray custom wool-blend car jacket, made from the same sustainably sourced wool as the vehicle’s seats, and a Nordico Belt in Dawn inspired by Volvo’s iconic three-point seat belts. The collection’s three looks effortlessly transition from casual denim to sleek houndstooth suits to after-get off work sparkles—perfectly embodying Hudson’s timeless, confident style.

The first day ended with an intimate dinner where guests were introduced to the collection and the design concepts behind it.

The next day, we took in the scenery as we drove our electric Volvo to a stunning beachside villa, where the tranquil scenery reflected the elegance of the partnership.

We ended the experience with a delicious dinner at one of Charleston’s best Italian restaurants, Sorelle, the perfect base for an inspired and stylish getaway.

Of course, I wear Sergio Hudson all the time!
Congratulations to Sergio Hudson on this innovative collaboration with Volvo Cars – a celebration of design, craftsmanship and sustainable luxury that truly embodies Volvo’s slogan ‘For life’.
