“Naked Island” by artist William Reinsch

Artist William Reinsch’s paintings depict recurring ideas of shared existence in a shared world. Born in Essex, England, Reinsh has been working on this series of paintings since 2019. While there is no clear meaning linking them together, they both reflect a natural evolution with the introduction of new elements and can be seen as Reinsch’s attempt to deal with his own inner workings.

“I called this place the Naked Island because it exists in isolation (self-contained and hidden like the unconscious) and the island itself is naked, revealing some kind of hidden truth. The newest addition to the series is the Emergency Blanket. It took me a long time to find the next ‘thing’ for this series because I needed things to come naturally It would have taken many years to appear. Fortunately, after many Photoshop collages I discovered that these blankets have a lot of potential. They are surreal and believable, and they carry layered associations, from names (Emergency, Survival, Security) to 2015. The iconic images of the year, especially the refugees wearing them, are visually striking and their iridescent light and geometric shapes juxtapose perfectly with the dark scenes I set.”

William Reinsch is currently preparing a series of solo exhibitions in London, New York and Mexico next year.
