3 Steps to Effective Networking You May Not Be Doing

By Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter

Networking is actually not difficult. It’s like putting money in a bank.

Job network like an all-star

I’m Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter, Head Coach at JobSearch.Community. This is a website that provides curated information that you can watch, listen to, or read that will help you find a job faster. Whether you’re looking for a job or starting a business, you know that networking is an important way to grow your business or find a job. That way people will find time to do it.

That’s really what this video is about, the three things you need to do in order to network effectively. As I mentioned when I was passing by there, the first thing is to start with creating time. You know, it has to be part of your calendar where you put yourself in situations where you can network.

So, the first thing is, you have to make time. Because what would happen otherwise? Frankly, networking is not one of them. People don’t have that kind of relationship.

This is really the point of networking is to cultivate relationships. How do you cultivate relationships? Okay, this brings us to the second point. You have to stay in touch with people.

After all, if you don’t talk to someone in 20 years, how likely is it that they will do anything to help you? I am LinkedIn member 7653. Yes, I was there early. Hundreds of millions of people later, I get a lot of contact requests from people who do nothing but contact me.

In fact, if they do contact me, their first message is, hey, will you buy what I’m selling? So, they’re not really trying to connect. They don’t really try to develop a relationship. When you’re trying to build a relationship, it’s always like, hey, can I spend 20 minutes selling to you? This became the essence of their helping hand.

You want to start cultivating a relationship where you may give more than you receive. I belong to the BNI chapter. This is the chapter of the Business Networking Group.

38 Deadly Interview Mistakes to Avoid

The theme of BNI is Giver Reaps. The truth is, you feel good when you’re in a position to give to others. Initially, you may have an awkward feeling.

But frankly, there are situations where I know where I and others have given to others and we feel good about it. We feel very good about this experience. We are proud to have helped another human being.

It’s not that others owe us anything. But we become a magnet for our own support. Others want to help us.

So, the first point is to seize the time. The second point is to stay connected and offer help to others when you connect with them. Third, it’s a fun thing to do and have casual conversation.

I grew up in New York. Although I no longer live there, I will tell you that casual conversation in New York is awkward. It’s not like you’re talking to people on the subway, right? You have to put yourself in the situation where something strange is happening, and you are the one who names it and identifies it.

It’s kind of like a “Seinfeld” moment. Now, if you ever see something weird happen but you’re not a waving lunatic, you can get people’s attention. Others can chime in, and you can have casual conversations with people that may lead to more results.

You can then stay in touch with them and make time to stay in touch with them and connect with others to build your network. Now, where can you connect with people? Now, depending on what city you’re in, the Chamber of Commerce is a great place to be if you’re a business owner. If you are a job seeker or otherwise. . . Keep me from trying to find a job.

Let me think about it from my perspective as an employee. Now, if you are a business owner, the Chamber of Commerce is a great place to be. There are professional groups that can assist you.

Yes, they will take up your evenings and weekends, but get involved with these groups. I’ve been involved in international men’s groups for the longest time. I’ve helped a lot of people through my involvement in the group.

Common interview mistakes many executives make (and how to fix them)

I will tell you, it feels good to put in the effort, and I get a lot back from it, professionally. I would say these three steps are very important for you. I’ve never met a job seeker who didn’t lament not having a good network when they needed to change jobs.

They always say, oh, why didn’t I spend more time? It’s like a person who has worked hard all his life, but when he is dying, he laments that he missed the time with his children. Well, networking is an important component for you as an employee of your company, and for you as a business owner. If you could schedule a little time every day, 15 minutes, to reach out to someone in your life that you haven’t spoken to in a while, it might be a former client, it might be a former co-worker, depending on whether you’re a business owner or an employee.

If you are an employee of a company, just say: Hi, how are you? I haven’t been in touch for a long time. I just want to pick up the phone and see how you are or send them an email. It’s trying to set a time.

Don’t think of it as a pure email exchange. Networking is a contact sport. In order to do this well, you actually have to talk to people.

If you reconnect, the email will be fine. But the first thing really is to make a phone call. I’m Jeff Altman, big game hunter.
