Dyneema’s new fiber composite material is more than ever

If you go Go back to 150 years and tell people that in the future they will carry everything they need to live on their backs for a week and you will run out of town. Carrying equipment is the job of horses and mules, not people! Fast forward, though, now, we are here, bringing the necessities on our back into the remote area. progress!

The good news is that everything you need for a week today is much less than it was 150 years ago. The ultra-light backpacking sport was born from the obsession of hikers and was eventually widely adopted by the Weekend Warriors, driving innovation in the outdoor gear industry for more than 20 years. Each iteration of the backpack, tent and sleeping bag becomes lighter, stronger and warmer.

But these packs are getting easier and stronger when you think they can’t get better. Today, Dyneema has launched a new fabric composite called (surprise) Dyneema woven composite, which is used by Cult Classic Hyperlite Mountain Gear (long-time collaborator) for a newer backpack.

Dyneema’s fabric of the same name has long been sturdy, durable and waterproof, and soft. Its new fabric, Dyneema, woven composite material, is made for the ultra-light backpack community. It blends the fully woven Dyneema face fabric with Dyneema’s existing composite fabric.

Dyneema woven composites were created with Hyperlite Mountain Gear and are currently only available in the company’s core ultralight backpacks, including the Southwest, Junction and Windrider models.

Mike St. Pierre founded Hyperlite in 2009, one of the first manufacturers to adopt Dyneema (then known as Cuben Fiber). As wrinkled as possible, that super light fabric lovely super light to backpackers. The company’s minimalism, stripped-down design and a strong commitment to quality – hundreds of miles on my 2019 Jounction bag, which looks like the day I purchased it, makes the company naturally fit into this collaboration.

Thanks to the outer layer of Dyneema, the new woven composite is 10 times more wear-resistant and five times more tear resistance than older fabrics. For anyone hiking in the Southwest desert, the previous stat is especially good news, in the southwest desert, brushing your backpack on hard rocks can often quickly destroy your gear.
