Paintings by artist Lydia Mutone from Richmond, Virginia. Mutone received a BFA from Virginia Umponwealth University in 2021. Her work explores numbers in intimate environments and distorted memory. She uses abstraction, pushes the image back and forth through digital editing, and then transitions the assembly into paint. Mutone plays a role in readability and confusion, depicting duplicates of a single topic in an action, but taking up space for stagnation. The limbs are revealed and hidden at the same time, as the characters stumble upon each other, which both implies the feeling of shifting time and also glimpses of a mysterious moment.
