Survey results for September 10, 2025 – Alibaba Interests, Technology, Beginner Barbells, More – Garage Gym Experiment

Here are yesterday’s survey results, some of which include comparisons to previous years.
Some key takeaways I got were:
- Most people are not interested in buying fitness equipment from Alibaba.
- More people are interested in building a range of cable attachments to the barbell. I don’t think that was the case a few years ago.
- Most people don’t have much interest in technology within their home gyms, but more people are definitely taking notice and overall interest is growing.
Less than a quarter would definitely consider buying fitness equipment from Alibaba.
The most popular “primary bar” choice with 44% of the vote was the power bar in the home gym. This is much the same situation we saw last year.
More people are interested in building a range of cable attachments to the barbell.
For most people currently in a home gym, attaching to a rack functional trainer is more ideal than using it independently.
Nearly half are “neutral” about technology entering the home gym space. It has more “fans” than those who say “Don’t let me go.”
Interest in technology entering the home gym space is still not overwhelming, but it is rising year by year.
About 43% of people use technology to improve their health.
By 2024, 47% of people say they use technology to improve their health, so that number has actually declined.
40% said a fitness technology caught their attention in 2025.
In 2024, the same question was asked about a technology product that captured their attention, but only 23% voted “yes.” That’s down 17% from last year, which is a big change.
49% believe companies like REP or Rogue (currently in the lead) will need to incorporate superior technology into certain products to remain at the top in 10 years.
In 2024, only 40% of people voted “yes”, which is also a considerable change.
