The best ways to use your FSA and HSA funds before they expire

Share the best ways to use your FSA and HSA funds before they expire.
Hi friends! Are you OK? I hope your morning is off to a great start! We’re in full vacation mode here; I really want to get everything done this week. I started holiday baking but everything got used up lol, so I’m going to start over (and store some in the garage freezer!).
I have also started planning content for the New Year and 2026. I’m so excited for what’s to come next year!
In today’s post, I want to share some tips on how to use your FSA and HSA funds before they expire, because I know many of you are in vacation mode too, and it might not be on your radar. (We don’t have accounts for these, but it’s something I’m exploring in the new year since we love health essentials and lab testing). I’d love to start this too since it was the first thing I bought.
The reality is that thousands of people leave money on the table every year simply because they’re not sure what actually qualifies as HSA and FSA spending.
The good news is that there are many smart, legal ways to use these funds to support your health—especially if you focus on prevention, reducing inflammation, balancing hormones, and long-term health.
I want to talk about some of the best ways to use your FSA and HSA funds before they expire, including some of my favorite wellness tools, functional wellness options, and actual purchases that really make a difference in how you feel.

First, a quick review: FSA vs. HSA
What is the difference between an FSA and an HSA?
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
– It’s usually “use it or lose it” by the end of the year
– Employer sponsorship
– Covers eligible medical expenses
Health Savings Account (HSA)
– Funds roll over from year to year
– Offer high-deductible health plans
– Can be used for many of the same qualified expenses
Be sure to check your specific program rules, but the following categories are generally eligible.
(Tip: You can switch Amazon to qualify for FSA/HSA)
1. Functional health testing (huge opportunity)
One of the best uses of FSA/HSA funds is testing, especially if you’ve been struggling with fatigue, inflammation, gut issues, or hormonal changes.
Qualifying testing may include:
– Food sensitivity testing
– Minerals and heavy metals
– Stress, mood and metabolism tests
– Gut health and microbiome testing
Brands like EquiLife offer a wide range of home function lab tests that are often FSA/HSA compliant and can give you clarity at a glance rather than guesswork.
If you’ve been trying to “figure out what the hell is going on,” this is a smart way to spend those funds.

2. Detoxification and Inflammation Support
Many people wait until January to set health and wellness goals, but using your FSA/HSA funds now can help you start the new year feeling lighter and less inflamed.
Eligible items may include:
– Detox program
– Supplements including magnesium, melatonin, adrenal support, Omega 3 and multivitamins
A structured detox program, like EquiLife’s, can be a strategic, compliant way to use funds that would otherwise expire, especially if inflammation and swelling are ongoing issues for you.
3. Red Light Therapy and Recovery Tools
This is what often surprises people.
Many rehabilitation and therapy devices qualify for FSA/HSA use when designed to support pain relief, inflammation, circulation or muscle recovery.
Items that may be eligible:
– Red light therapy equipment
– Infrared or PEMF recovery tool
– Muscle recovery and pain relief devices (like these compression boots and foot massagers)
Brands like HigherDOSE create wellness tools that support recovery, circulation, and cellular health, and some of their products often qualify for the FSA/HSA market.
If you’ve been eyeing red light therapy for skin, joint pain, or recovery, this could be a very smart end-of-year purchase.
Here are some of my favorites:
PEMF Go Mat. I use it every day for breathing and meditation, or when I need a little recharge while working at the computer. Use FITNESSISTA15.
The famous sauna blanket! This was a Black Friday gift to myself years ago and I still use it at least once a week for stress relief, sweaty skin, glowing skin, and amazing sleep. Use FITNESSISTA15.
Red light mask. I use it every morning when I’m doing chores or multitasking. It gives an amazing glow to my skin and I noticed a huge difference in the texture of my skin.
Lumebox also accepts FSA/HSA. I use it every day for many reasons. For energy, focus, mood, inflammation, skin, pain, muscle soreness, fever and more.

4. Fitness and sports equipment
Exercise is good medicine, and certain fitness tools qualify.
Typically eligible projects include:
– Resistance bands
– Dumbbells or kettlebells
– Foam roller
– Balance tool
– Stability ball
– Massage gun
If you are building a home exercise facility or upgrading an existing facility, your FSA/HSA funds can often be used to purchase durable medical or fitness equipment that supports good health.
5. Sleep Support and Stress Reduction
Sleep and stress management are fundamental to hormonal, metabolic and immune health, but many people don’t realize how many tools qualify.
Eligible items may include:
– Sleep aid and support
– Anti-blue light glasses
– Oura Ring. I love this stuff!
– Certain relaxation or recovery tools
– Meditation or biofeedback devices
If poor sleep quality has been taking a toll on your energy, this is a great category to explore.
6. Daily health essentials you’ll use no matter what
Don’t overlook the basics; they add up quickly.
Common necessities to qualify for FSA/HSA:
– First aid supplies
– retainer cleaner
– Heating pad or ice pack
-Hand sanitizer
– thermometer
– My favorite mold-proof coffee
– blood pressure monitor
– Glucose monitor (this is the one I use and recommend to clients)
– Smart scale
– Sunscreen (yes, even this!)
– Over-the-counter pain relievers and allergy medications
– Prescription sunglasses! ! ! i love mine very much
Stocking up now can save you money later.

7. Menstrual period, hormones and female health products
Women often have a large inventory of eligible purchases sitting around.
Typically eligible:
– Menstrual products
– Heating pad to relieve cramps
– Ovulation and fertility tracker
– Certain hormone support tools
If you’re concerned about hormone balance, this category is worth checking out.
How to check eligibility (quick tips)
• Look for the “FSA/HSA Eligible” label on the product page
• Use major FSA/HSA online stores or marketplaces
• Keep receipts for emergencies
• If in doubt, ask your plan administrator
The rules may vary slightly, but many health brands now clearly label eligible products.
If your FSA or HSA funds are about to expire, please note:
Use them to invest in your health; don’t waste them!
Whether it’s functional testing, detox support, recovery tools or fitness equipment, these purchases can help you feel better now and prepare you for the year ahead.
If you’re not sure what will have the biggest impact on your body, I’m always happy to help you brainstorm. If you have one of these accounts and you’re excited about how your money is used, please share the details with us!
Have a nice day and I’ll see you soon!
hehe,
Gina
