Adjustable kettlebells or traditional kettlebells for your home gym? – Garage Gym Experiment

findings

In a recent poll, we asked people whether they would prefer adjustable kettlebells or traditional kettlebells in their home gym, considering space and budget.

Traditional kettlebells were the clear winner, with 48.5% of the vote, while adjustable kettlebells had 31.6%. 7.1% also voted for competition kettlebells and 12.8% were unsure.

My thoughts and predictions about the future

I personally love the compactness of adjustable kettlebells, and I think as these options continue to improve, we’ll see opinions start to shift. I own the Bells of Steel adjustable kettlebell and it does a great job. It offers a wide range of adjustments, but changing weight does take some time, which is something many people don’t want to deal with during exercise.

Personally, I primarily use kettlebells for swings and goblet squats, rather than many of the more advanced kettlebell movements, so the adjustable design works well in my setup.

That said, Freak Athlete recently launched a very solid option that includes a faster adjustment mechanism. Titan also offers budget-friendly kettlebells at attractive prices, giving people another entry point if they want to save space without spending too much money.

As more companies start making adjustable kettlebells that make weight changes faster and easier, I think we’ll start to see the benefits outweigh the disadvantages for more people.

Currently, traditional kettlebells are still the first choice for most people. They don’t need to change weight, don’t rattle, and generally move more naturally.

However, similar to adjustable dumbbells, there is a place for both depending on how one trains. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the balance change over the next few years as adjustable options continue to improve.
