Humpback whales are approaching people blowing rings. What do they want to say? – huge

After attracting “counter-trend” fascinating anti-capitalism around the world in 2023, scientists are interested in another form of marine mammal communication.

In a study released this month by SETI Institute and the University of Davis Dives blow bubble rings in a newly recorded humpback whale phenomenon while interacting with humans. The researchers say that contrary to Orcas’ aggressive behavior, the head seems friendly, relaxed, and even curious.

These aquatic giants are no strangers, which often release various shapes around prey and proposal partners. The study followed 12 distinct events involving 11 whales that produced 39 rings, most of which were close to ships near Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, Mo’orea, Mo’orea and the U.S. Atlantic coast.

However, the impact of this study goes far beyond the ocean. Decrypting this nonverbal information can help potential alien communication because they can help “develop filters that help parse cosmic signals to understand signs of alien life,” a statement said.

“Due to the current limitations of technology, the important assumption of finding alien intelligence is that alien intelligence and life will be interested in making connections and therefore targeting human recipients,” said Dr. Laurance Doyle, a scientist at the SETI Institute. “This important assumption is undoubtedly supported by the independent evolution of curious behavior in humpback whales.” (via PETAPIXEL)
