First: New Park Hyatt Johannesburg

Park Hyatt Johannesburg has been one of the most anticipated luxury hotels for several years, and in fact, I was the first guest to welcome travelers on July 1st.

With only 31 rooms, it’s the smallest Hyatt Regency in the Park in the world and one of the most exciting new perspective hotels to debut this year. It was formerly a beloved boutique called the Winston Hotel, and then it underwent a top-down remodel and joined the Hyatt.

This is my visit during the hotel opening and if you stay there, you’ll expect it.

First impression

Fortunately, I landed in Johannesburg for a long-term planned trip. I was even invited to cut the etiquette ribbons and then accompanied in the beautifully restored main building (original 1930s mansion) and provided a cup of South African Rooibos tea and chocolate truffles from the tray.

I’ve taken care of check-in in the car, but I still spent a little time admiring the intricate entrance hallway- it had a row of vases holding perfect white orchids and poked my head into the informal reception area where protea blooms and paradise birds and objets d’Art d’Art Art and Assourline and Assourline and Assourline books lintins books n shelves in Shellves contrastns earter stage. It feels like stepping into a living room of a completely stylish and cultural friend.

In the exterior of a set of stairs and in the flight along the stairs, I stroll through the central garden and start warming up on this bright mid-winter morning, passing a small lily pond and swimming pool. Later on, I would sit on the terrace of my room, with the sound of birds as I adapted to the new time zone, sunshine in this small oasis in the heart of the big city. That is to say, this yes There is a construction site to the south of the hotel in a big city, so it is possible that you hear some loud noises during your stay. However, the room is very thermally insulated from the noise.

Room

The hotel has 31 accommodations, including 26 rooms (17 of which have great views and 18 private terraces), two junior suites and 3 professional suites: Winston Suite, The Rosebank Suite and Wellness Suite.

Rooms are divided into two categories: standard royal rooms and pool views. Mine is the latter.

They measure 366 square feet. The two junior suites are approximately the same size, but have access to the garden and a more noticeable living area with small sofas instead of window seats.

However, all of this is made with crisp white sheets with subtle pipes, oversized pillows (don’t worry, if they’re too big you can choose from the eight alternatives on the pillow menu) and a velvet headboard. In each bedroom, guests will also find a throwing pillow with natural patterns, runners and walls hanging from the walls (the room is decorated based on themes such as trees, forests, forests, safaris, explorers, explorers, leaves and seaweed, all referring to the unique lands and sea views of South Africa).

At the foot of my bed, there are two mustard-colored chairs to hang out in front of the wall-mounted 55-inch TV. Below this, a black marble-topped Creed holds the Minibar, which boasts free non-alcoholic drinks and a variety of puzzling snacks.

Outside the bedroom, there are two glass-faced closets for hanging clothes (I had already delivered my luggage to the room when I arrived) and a vanity. There was no workbench so I ended up using a closet vanity as one or just working on the bed. That said, there are plenty of places to sit around the public areas of the hotel and send some emails.

Opposite this is perhaps the most dramatic feature of the entire room: the black and cream marble bathroom surrounded by scalloped glass panes. The anchored main floor space is a deep round bathtub with a slight minced baking and muscle-matched bath salt.

There are also double sinks and vanity, a water closet with toilet, and a walk-in shower with overhead and handheld shower, custom, locally made, tone-in bath aids.

Finally, through a set of glass doors near the front door, I found a semi-private seating area overlooking the garden. I spent some time here to enjoy the fresh air and admire the few flowers currently in full bloom, although I mostly shut the curtains for privacy as staff and other guests walk regularly. If you have the option to do so, please request a room on the north side of the property to provide more privacy and a larger distance from the building to the south of the hotel.

Have a meal

The main restaurant at Hyatt Regency Johannesburg Park is known as Room 32, open from 6:30 to 10:30 AM, and enjoy lunch from noon to 3pm to 6pm to 10pm for dinner. The menu tends to produce and protein from all over South Africa. The space is intimate, with only two and four top tables with plush chairs, all of which offer views of the open kitchen behind the striking black Onyx counter.

All paid and points rates are currently included in breakfast and start with a hearty spread of homemade pastries, fresh fruits, delis, cheese and yogurt. Hot dishes are also provided, including truffle eggs on coal sour dough and South African spin on Shakshuka, the beef radiates sausages in sauces of chili sauce, tomatoes, red peppers and feta.

At dinner, the fare is equally refined, with specialties such as rich cauliflower panna cotta with pumpkin and onion puree and pea shoots ($9), juicy Karoo lamb cutlets with lentil and asparagus ragout, peas and mint salsa verde ($27) and creamy milk tart for dessert with cinnamon, honeycomb ice cream and almond crumble ($10). Blanc and Clairette.

Guests can also dine on the terrace during the restaurant opening (with hot lights). There will also be a cigar lounge here.

There is also a comfortable lounge opposite the reception area, which is open from 6 a.m. to midnight every day. There, guests can enjoy drinks and casual bites such as smoked olives ($9), grilled nuts ($9), and falafel sandwich ($11).

Eventually, the hotel is opening an Assouline brand tent near the seats adjacent to the seats, with only 12 people. It will offer similar items to the lounge, as well as its own dishes such as the Smoked Beef T ($11) and Club Sandwich ($13).

Convenience and service

• Bring a swimsuit so you can dip in the heated pool. There are some lounge chairs in the garden plants.
• The hotel’s wellness center is not open yet, but will include a spa (we requested more details, but the hotel staff is mom!).
• The hotel’s fitness center is small but comes with Technogym aerobics and weight equipment.
• Service is friendly and diligent but not overbearing. Cheerful servers, doormats and executives will be happy to provide you with everything from sightseeing plans to dinner reservations.

Location and logistics

Park Hyatt Johannesburg is located in the city’s elegant Rosebank district, surrounded by the shopping mall of the same name, so you’ll find plenty of shops, restaurants and galleries within walking distance (and you can walk around safely).

It takes about 30 to 50 minutes to get to the hotel by car from OR Tambo International Airport (JNB), and the ride service (also safe) costs about $12 to $20 in each direction.

Its cost

Hyatt Regency Johannesburg Park is the world of Hyatt Regency Category 6 properties. Night prices start at $450 or Hyatt 21,000 to 29,000 depending on the date. In the following months, the rate appears to be fixed at the mid-level of 25,000 points.

Accessibility

There is a ramp from the driveway to the main building, the dining room and lounge have no steps. Those in wheelchairs can also head toward the back of the property and through the back of the wellness center for access to the pool area and the hotel’s single-family room (No. 8), which has typical adjustments such as bathroom gripper handles that can provide vibrating pillows for those with hearing problems. All other rooms and suites require stairs.

Bottom line

Park Hyatt Johannesburg is a popular addition to the city’s Point Hotel site and Park Hyatt Portfolio. Its private size means friendly staff can provide personalized service, and the rooms and public places look stylish and elegant.

The price per night is around $500, which is still one of the most expensive options in Johannesburg, but it is also one of the most special options. Given the current wide night availability of awards, this is a great choice for members of the Hyatt World.
